BEHIND THE COLLECTION

From the Naval Yard to your closet. Meet your new go-to.

The beauty of a denim shirt lies in its sensible yet subtle style. It's unassuming with an underlying toughness and fringe appeal that makes it the least pretentious button-down you can own. You can wear a denim shirt with just about anything (even the dicey denim-on-denim look, if done right). So, naturally, we wanted to create our own version of this steadfast menswear staple. But it had to be different.

Introducing our limited-run collection of ridiculously soft, lightweight denim shirts in two iconic collar styles: the small point and button-down collar. The collection is inspired by Navy Yard in Washington, DC, the Navy’s oldest shore establishment located on the banks of the Anacostia River near H&C headquarters. From 1920s to 1990s, dungarees—an indigo chambray shirt and bootcut jeans—were the working uniform worn in the Navy. We took the historic workwear utility of denim, and eliminated any stiffness or boxiness. Each shirt features a single breast pocket and two back darts for a tailored fit rarely found in your average denim shirt. The result is an all-season denim that can be dressed up with a knit wool tie, layered over a henley, or worn open over a Fitted Tee.

The Denim Collection was shot in Washington, DC, along Blagden Alley and inside La Colombe.
